BKM Community Group runs fourteen services for the Muslim community in Manchester. Most are free. All of them exist because someone in the community asked for them, and several are run by volunteers who do the work around their own jobs.

Classes and Learning
Our teaching runs Monday to Friday, 4pm to 6pm at the Qadria Jilania Islamic Centre in Longsight, and is free to attend.
- Quran Classes — reading, recitation and understanding for children and adults, taught at each student’s own level, from the Arabic letters through to fluency.
- Quran Tajweed — beginners Tajweed for people who can already read but want to recite correctly, including dedicated sessions for sisters.
- Quran Translation & Understanding — for those who have recited for years without knowing what the words mean.
- Arabic & Urdu Classes — free, ages 14 and over, beginner to advanced. Wednesday 6–8pm and Sunday 12–2pm.
- University & College Admissions Guidance — through BKM Consultancy, with particular attention to students who are the first in their family to apply.
Support for Families
These are the services people contact us about at the hardest points in their lives. Every enquiry is treated confidentially.
- Community Support — practical help for families facing illness, bereavement, unemployment, or simply not having enough at the end of the month.
- Help for Families in Need — appeals through the year for households facing serious hardship, in Manchester and further afield.
- Support for Children with Additional Needs — help navigating school support, assessments and services, including where language is a barrier.
- Health & Wellbeing Support — awareness sessions on conditions that fall unevenly on South Asian communities, and on subjects that are not always comfortably discussed.
Life Events
- Funeral Service — help for families arranging an Islamic burial in Manchester, at a point when arrangements are usually needed within a day or two. Funeral enquiries are answered as a priority.
- Matrimonial Service — a confidential service helping members of the community meet with marriage in mind.
- Qurbani Service — coordinated each year at Eid al-Adha for families who wish to fulfil the sacrifice but cannot arrange it themselves.
Community and Premises
- Community Gatherings & Events — religious commemorations, shared meals, and occasions that bring families into the same room, including the annual programme in Rabi al-Awwal.
- Facilities & Building Upkeep — the unglamorous work of keeping our premises safe, clean and warm, which makes everything else on this page possible.
Where We Are
Classes, gatherings and events are held at the Qadria Jilania Islamic Centre, St John’s Road, Longsight, Manchester M13 0NS. Some events are held at our Hemmons Road address instead, so it is worth confirming before travelling.
