Quran Translation & Understanding

A teaching session at BKM Community Group, Manchester

Reading the Quran in Arabic is one thing. Understanding it is another, and many Muslims recite regularly for years without knowing what the words mean.

These sessions in Manchester work through the meaning of the Quran, helping students understand what they recite rather than only how to recite it. We cover selected chapters in depth, with explanation of context and vocabulary.

What You Will Get From It

Students commonly describe a particular moment: recognising a phrase they have said in every prayer since childhood and understanding it for the first time. That recognition changes the relationship with the text.

We also help students choose a reliable translation, since quality varies considerably and a poor translation is often blamed on the Quran itself. Our guide to starting to read the Quran covers this in more detail.
