BKM Community Group runs appeals throughout the year for families in hardship, for children’s education, and for access to things most people never have to think about — clean water, a safe place to sleep, medicine.
Some of this work is here in Manchester. Some of it is further afield, in places where our members still have family and can see directly where help is needed.
How Giving Works Here
Donations are arranged directly with us, not through this website. We do not take card payments online and there is no donate button on these pages.
That is deliberate. It means every donation involves a conversation, and it means you can ask exactly where your money is going and get a straight answer before you give anything.
To donate, or to ask how a particular appeal is being run:
- Telephone 07727 874307
- Email info@bkmcommunity.com
- Or come and see us at 53 Hemmons Road, Manchester M12 5TW
Current Appeals
- Clean Water Appeal — safe drinking water for communities without a reliable supply.
- Education Support for Children — school costs, materials and fees for children whose families cannot meet them.
- Food Parcels and Emergency Support — immediate help for households that have run out.
- Ongoing Family Support — sustained help for families managing long-term difficulty rather than a single crisis.
- Emergency Shelter Support — help for people who have lost their housing at short notice.
- Homelessness Support — practical assistance for people sleeping rough or in temporary accommodation.
- Health and Medical Hardship Support — help with costs arising from illness and treatment.
Zakat, Sadaqah and Where It Goes
If you are giving zakat specifically, please say so when you contact us, because zakat has eight categories of eligible recipient set out in the Quran (9:60) and cannot be spent on general running costs. We keep zakat separate and will tell you which appeal it went to.
Sadaqah is not restricted in the same way and can be used wherever the need is greatest, including keeping our own classes and premises running.
If you want to understand the difference before deciding, we have written about both: Understanding Zakat and Sadaqah: The Everyday Charity That Goes Beyond Zakat.
If You Need Help Rather Than Want to Give
Please contact us. Enquiries from families in difficulty are treated in confidence, and you do not need to be known to us already. If you are aware of someone else who may need support and would not ask themselves, we would rather hear from you than not.
