Some families are not in crisis but are permanently close to it — managing month to month with nothing spare, where a single unexpected cost undoes months of careful budgeting.

What This Appeal Does

It provides ongoing support to low-income households in Manchester: help with essentials, school costs, and the periodic expenses that are manageable for most people and impossible for some.

A Different Kind of Help

Emergency appeals are easier to fund than steady support, because urgency is easier to feel than persistence. But sustained help is often what actually changes a family’s trajectory, and it is the harder thing to keep going.

Regular giving, even in small amounts, is what makes this possible. The tradition consistently favours the small and consistent over the large and occasional.

Why Ongoing Rather Than Emergency

Most giving is aimed at crises, because crises are visible. But a large share of hardship is not a crisis at all — it is a household running a permanent small deficit, where nothing dramatic happens and nothing improves either.

A one-off parcel helps a family for a week. What changes the trajectory is knowing that support is there next month too, so a person can take an unpaid day to attend a hospital appointment, or turn down an exploitative shift.

Who This Tends to Be

• Households where illness or disability limits how much anyone can work
• Single parents managing childcare against working hours
• Elderly members with no family nearby and a fixed income
• Families supporting a relative with long-term care needs

Why Regular Giving Matters Here

A small standing amount each month is worth considerably more to this work than an occasional large gift, because it lets us commit to a family for a period rather than help once and hope.

Ten pounds a month, sustained, is more useful than a hundred pounds once. That is not a fundraising line — it is the practical difference between being able to promise a family something and not.

Dignity

Support is arranged quietly. No names are read out, no photographs are taken, and nobody is asked to be grateful in public. Several of the families we support are people you would see at the masjid every week without ever knowing.

Zakat or Sadaqah?

If you are giving zakat, please say so when you contact us. Zakat has eight categories of eligible recipient set out in the Quran (9:60), cannot be spent on running costs, and we keep it separate and account for it separately. Sadaqah is not restricted in the same way.

Why There Is No Donate Button

We do not take card payments through this website. Every donation involves a conversation, which means you can ask exactly where the money is going and get a straight answer before you give anything. It is slower, and for an organisation of our size we think it is better.
