Education is the most reliable route out of poverty available to a family, and the one most easily interrupted by it. A child who falls behind because there was no money for support rarely catches up on their own.

What This Appeal Does

It funds educational support for children and adults, both locally and further afield — teaching materials, tuition costs, and the practical expenses that stop families taking up help that already exists.

In Manchester

Locally, this sits alongside the teaching we already provide. Our Arabic and Urdu classes are free, our Urdu tuition for children is free, and our admissions guidance helps students who are the first in their family to apply to university.

Cost is one of the most common reasons people never begin. Removing it removes both the barrier and the excuse.

What Actually Stops a Child Attending

It is rarely one large cost. It is an accumulation of small ones that a family cannot meet at the same time — uniform, shoes that fit, books, exam fees, transport, the equipment a particular subject requires.

A child kept home for want of any one of these falls behind, and falling behind is far harder to reverse than preventing it.

Girls’ Education Specifically

Where a family cannot afford to educate every child, the daughter is very often the one withdrawn. The effects compound across a generation, because a mother’s literacy is among the strongest predictors of whether her own children stay in school.

This is not a modern imposition on Islamic teaching. The first revealed word was iqra — read — and it was not addressed to men only.

What Contributions Go Towards

• Transport where distance is the barrier

Locally, Too

Not all of this is overseas. Families in Manchester also come to us over uniform costs and school trips, and those requests are handled quietly and without fuss. If that is your situation, please just ask.

Zakat or Sadaqah?

If you are giving zakat, please say so when you contact us. Zakat has eight categories of eligible recipient set out in the Quran (9:60), cannot be spent on running costs, and we keep it separate and account for it separately. Sadaqah is not restricted in the same way.

Why There Is No Donate Button

We do not take card payments through this website. Every donation involves a conversation, which means you can ask exactly where the money is going and get a straight answer before you give anything. It is slower, and for an organisation of our size we think it is better.
