Gatherings, classes and religious commemorations held by BKM Community Group in Manchester. Everyone is welcome unless a session is stated to be for sisters only, and there is no charge to attend anything on this page.
What We Hold Through the Year
Our calendar follows the Hijri year, so the English dates move earlier by roughly eleven days each year. The occasions that recur are:
- Mehfil-e-Milad un-Nabi ﷺ and the wider programme through Rabi al-Awwal
- Mehfil-e-Naat — evenings of naat and praise
- Giyarhwin Sharif — the Urs of Ghawth al-Azam, Shaykh Abd al-Qadir al-Jilani
- Shab-e-Miraj — the Night of the Ascension
- Shab-e-Barat — the Night of Forgiveness
- Ramadan — Taraweeh and community iftars through the month
- Weekly dars and Tajweed sessions for sisters
Two Things Worth Knowing Before You Come
Dates can move. Religious occasions depend on moon sighting and may shift by a day either way. A date shown here is our best expectation, not a guarantee.
So can the venue. Most of our programme is held at the Qadria Jilania Islamic Centre, St John’s Road, Longsight, Manchester M13 0NS. Some gatherings are held at our Hemmons Road address instead.
For both reasons, please call 07727 874307 or contact us to confirm before travelling, particularly if you are coming any distance.
Bringing Children
Children are welcome at all of our gatherings. We would rather have a noisy room than an empty one — a child who has grown up knowing the people in this hall is far more likely to still be here at nineteen.
Helping Out
Most of what happens at these events — the setting up, the food, the clearing away afterwards — is done by volunteers. If you can give an hour, please tell us. It is genuinely the easiest way to become part of this community rather than a visitor to it.
