Sisters’ Beginners Tajweed Class

A weekly daytime class for sisters covering the foundations of Tajweed, the science of correct Quranic recitation. Held every Tuesday at Qadria Jilania Islamic Centre in Longsight and taught by female teachers.

What You Will Learn

Students learn the foundations of Tajweed by understanding the makharij, the points of articulation, and the forms of articulation. This increases understanding of the Arabic language and improves recitation of the Holy Quran.

For Complete Beginners

These sessions exist for beginners. If you have never studied Tajweed, or learned to read as a child and lost confidence since, this is the right place to start. Nobody is asked to recite in front of the group before they are ready.

Why a Teacher Matters

Tajweed cannot be learned reliably from books or recordings, because you cannot hear your own mistakes. A learner mispronouncing a letter believes they are saying it correctly. Only someone listening can catch it, which is why recitation has always been passed on face to face.
